Vinora marks

A short spec for the marks, not for the rest of the site.

Version 1.0, 2026. The mark is built like a flag: it is not an app icon and not a letter. There is one star on one purple field; when a product needs its own mark, it takes the lower-right half of the square. The mascot is not part of the mark.

Family

There are four marks. They share the same star, the same geometry, and the same purple in the upper left. Project has no split. Engine, Screenplay, and Store fill the lower-right triangle with their own colour.

Project

The umbrella mark for the whole project: a white star on purple, with no second colour.

Lockup

The mark sits on the left, with two lines of type on the right. VINORA is always purple; the second line is the product name, in that product’s colour. The type is a grotesque (Arial, Helvetica, or the system sans), extra-bold. It is the same family as the site, only heavier.

VINORA ENGINE

VINORA SCREENPLAY

VINORA STORE

A mark should not be paired with the wrong product line, and the two lines should not be set in one colour. The square on its own is enough for a favicon, a sticker, or an avatar; the lockup is for titles and headers.

Colour

Role Hex Where
Vinora #4B1878 Field, upper-left, the word VINORA, Project
Engine field #C4186A Engine split (darker so the star holds)
Engine word #E8367A The word ENGINE
Screenplay #9E1E3A Split and the word SCREENPLAY
Store #157A63 Split and the word STORE
Star #FFFFFF Always white. Never recolour.

Engine is the only mark whose field is darker than its word. That is on purpose: the word can be loud, but the star still has to sit on both halves.

Construction

The canvas is 32 by 32. Purple fills the square. The split, when there is one, is the triangle (32,0) (32,32) (0,32) in the lower right. The star is centred at (16,16), with four rays pointing north, east, south, and west. The outer radius is 12.6, the inner 5.6. It should not be rotated 45 degrees.

Clear space and size

Leave an empty margin around the square equal to one eighth of its side (4 units on the 32-grid). Type and other marks should not enter that margin.

The smallest size on screen is 24 pixels; 32 is better. In print, the side should be at least 8 mm. Smaller than that, use the square alone, without the lockup. Below 24 pixels, do not use the mark.

Backgrounds

The square is the field, and it should not be dropped. The star should not be knocked out onto a photograph or into a user interface. On light or dark paper, the square is placed as a badge. A rounded sticker is fine as a physical die-cut; the master remains a sharp square.

What not to do

  • The mark, the star, and the split should not be rotated.
  • The halves should not be swapped: purple always stays in the upper left.
  • The star should not be recoloured.
  • Do not add a gradient, a drop shadow, or an outline.
  • Do not use the Engine mark for Store or Screenplay.
  • Do not stretch it, squash it, or set it in a circle as the master.
  • Do not add the mascot, a letter, or a speech bubble to the mark.
  • Do not set VINORA and the product line in the same colour.

For one-colour print, use Project only: a black field and a white star. The product marks need two inks plus white. If you have only one ink, you do not have a product mark.

SVG is the original. PNG files at 32, 64, and 256 sit next to them in brand/ when a raster is required.
